Carter & Emily | A Dreamy Sailboat Session on Lake Guntersville

Some sessions feel like they belong in a romance novel—and this one with Carter and Emily might have just set the standard.

When we planned their engagement session, we wanted something different, something intimate, something that felt like them. A sailboat on Lake Guntersville was the perfect choice. But, as with all the best stories, the day came with a little drama.

It rained on the drive there, the kind of steady rain that makes you wonder if you should even keep going. By the time we climbed aboard, the skies had cleared just enough for us to venture out, but before long, raindrops began to fall again. For a moment, it seemed certain we’d have to bring the boat in early, cut our time short, and try again another day.

But Captain Greg—calm, steady, and experienced—decided to wait it out. And I am so glad he did. Because when the rain finally lifted, it was as if the whole world had been reset. The lake stilled, the clouds parted, and the horizon lit up with the most breathtaking sunset. Golden light spilled across the water, turning everything it touched into magic. Not a single rain cloud remained in sight.

Greg and his wife, Debbie, the wonderful owners of Moonlight Sailing, made the experience even more special with their warmth and hospitality. They didn’t just give us a boat—they created an atmosphere that felt relaxed, unhurried, and full of joy.

And then there were Carter and Emily. On that sailboat, surrounded by still water and open sky, they seemed completely in their own world. The way Carter looked at Emily, the way Emily naturally fell into his arms—it was intimate, effortless, and so genuine that I often felt like I wasn’t even there. My camera simply documented what was already overflowing between them: love, comfort, and a quiet confidence in each other.

By the end of the evening, as the last bit of sun dipped below the horizon, I couldn’t help but think how perfectly the day had mirrored love itself—sometimes a little unpredictable, but when you choose to wait it out, you’re met with something far more beautiful than you imagined.

Carter and Emily, thank you for letting me be part of such a stunning and heartfelt chapter in your story. I’ll never forget it.
